As I am sure we all know by now, the playstation vita is a 3G handheld gaming console from the eigth generation. It is a revolutionary device with: an OLED screen, multitouch capabilities and the ability to play games from your PS3 on your vita.

What if I told you that Sony left out a couple of small details when releasing this console? Well it’s true. They have not been as honest as we would expect.

What we wish remote play was like.

Firstly, Let’s address the cool new vita function – Remote Play – This feature supposedly allows users to play any game from their PS3 system on their PSVita. So, what’s wrong. Well, I have tried this feature and I can certainly say that it is not as great as it appears. Upon using the Remote Play service, you are connected to your PS3 via a bluetooth or wifi connection. At first, everything is normal – you can navigate the xcross media bar and play your usual music but let’s face it – nobody buys a gaming console to listen to music. Next, when i tried to play the game already in the ps3 (Arkham Asylum) I was amazed to find that this game was not “compatible” with the Playstation Vita, but that can’t be true because Sony said it would work with any game. I tried another game, and another, and another and yet none of them were so called “compatible.” Just when I think things can’t get any worse, a few days later, Sony announce their mistake with the Remote Play function and tell us that in order to use that function we would instead need to buy their brand new console – the PS4. My first thoughts on this, not happy.

Moving on from remote play. The next fault I found with the system was it’s OLED to Screen integrity – Due to the screen being stuck to the hardware behind it; any small scratch or fracture on the screen can result in a massive led bleed causing you screen to become unusable. Now usually, this wouldn’t be a problem but if (like me) you happened to want to REPAIR the screen – then it will cost you way into the £100 bracket… for a screen. I can hear you asking why, so i’ll tell you. Sony never bothered to release replacement screens during the Vita’s manufacturing process meaning you cannot just go and buy one from ebay, you instead must go directly to one of the warehouses and buy one from them resulting in the high price. My thought on this, not happy.

So, don’t get me wrong – I love the PSVita with a passion – but I thought you may like to know more about it before you bought.

Thanks For Reading,
Matt
